What's New

June 8-9, 2026 As part of our lab's field training, with the generous support of a local company,we visited Futaba Town in Fukushima Prefecture, where the scars of the disaster still remain. We toured the interim storage and treatment facilities for decontamination waste, considering how our research can contribute to the region's recovery.
June 5-6, 2026 An Open Campus event was held at the Komaba Campus. Many visitors attended the event and had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the university’s educational and research activities through laboratory introductions and facility tours. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in and contributed to the event. We also extend our appreciation to all members of the laboratory for their hard work and dedication.
May 28,2026 The 63rd Japan Heat Transfer Symposium was held in Sapporo. From our laboratory, Prof. Hasegawa, Ph.D. candidate Tomizawa, and second-year master’s student Iwai participated and presented their research. Congratulations on the excellent presentations, and thank you for your hard work!
May 27,2026 On May 27, we held a farewell party for Fengbo and a welcome party for Fanette Emery. Members of the laboratory gathered to enjoy sushi and pizza while sharing a pleasant time together. The event provided a wonderful opportunity to thank Fengbo for his contributions to the lab, welcome Fanette as a new member, and deepen interactions among lab members.
May 1,2026 On May 1, Professor Atef Mohany from Ontario Tech University, along with Professor Marwan Hassan and Professor Wael Ahmed from University of Guelph, visited our laboratory.
During the visit, Professor Atef Mohany delivered a seminar lecture, followed by research presentations from our laboratory members and subsequent discussions.
April 17,2026 On Friday, April 17, members of the Hasegawa Laboratory visited the laboratory of Professor Atsuki Komiya at the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University for a research exchange.
After the visit, a social gathering was also held, where participants enjoyed dinner together and further deepened交流 and discussions.
April 6, 2026 Starting Monday, April 6, the Hasegawa Lab has relaunched with four new members. As first-year master’s students, Mr. Ota, Mr. Iwahana, and Mr. Hou have joined, and Valdemar has joined as an intern.

We also held a welcome party, where we enjoyed plenty of sushi and BBQ.
April 3, 2026 On Friday, April 3, seven high school students from Nada High School visited our laboratory. The visit began with an introduction to the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and an overview of our research topics by Professor Hasegawa, followed by a tour of the experimental facilities.
March 30, 2026 The RC107 Special Research Meeting hosted by our laboratory was held, with approximately 30 participants from 11 companies.
March 24, 2026 The graduation ceremony of the University of Tokyo Graduate School was held at the Hongo Campus. Mr. Kamura and Mr. Hirayama (M2 students) were awarded their Master's degrees. Congratulations on your graduation!
March 16, 2026 The 41st Turbulence Control Workshop (TSFD Symposium) was held at the Institute of Industrial Science.
We had the pleasure of inviting the following distinguished researchers:
Prof. Shinnosuke Obi (Keio University), who will retire at the end of this academic year;
Prof. Yoshimitsu Yokoi (Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo), who will also retire at the end of this academic year;
Dr. Alexander Stroh (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology);
and Dr. Chris Howland (University College Dublin).

In addition, during the student presentations at the Turbulence Control Workshop, Mr. Kashimura (M2) received the Best Presentation Award. Congratulations, Kashimura-san!
March 10, 2026 Prof. Florian from Darmstadt University of Technology visited our laboratory and kindly gave a seminar talk.
March 9, 2026 Some members of the laboratory held a farewell party. Congratulations to Mr. Kashimura, Mr. Nishikawa, Ms. Tingting, and Mr. Luis on your graduation!
March 6, 2026 The final lecture of Prof. Hidefumi Hanazaki (Kyoto University), who supervised Prof. Hasegawa during his master’s studies, was held, and Prof. Hasegawa attended the event.
February 20–21, 2026 The 11th Young Investigators Meeting of the Japanese Vascular Biology and Medicine Organization (JVBMO) was held in Ehime. Shun Tomizawa (D2) received the Excellent Presentation Award. Congratulations, Shun!!
January 30, 2026 Today, Professor Komiya from Tohoku University visited our laboratory and gave a seminar lecture. After the seminar, he engaged in research discussions with our lab members and toured the laboratory facilities.
January 21, 2026 The 40th Inter-institutional Joint Seminar on Turbulent Flow Control was held at Surugadai Campus, Meiji University. From our laboratory, Mr. Hirayama (M2) participated in the presentation and was awarded the Excellent Presentation Award. Congratulations to Mr. Hirayama!!
January 16, 2026 Mr. Fengbo, a postdoctoral researcher in our laboratory, received the Young Researcher Best Presentation Award at JSFM2025 (The 2025 Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics)! Congratulations, Fengbo!!
January 16, 2026 Some members of our lab visited the laboratory of Professor Hajime Nakamura at the National Defense Academy. We also stopped by a hamburger restaurant in Miura run by Yoshida-san’s father!
January 13, 2026 We held a New Year’s party with volunteer members of the lab! We had a great time enjoying delicious food such as sushi and yakiniku together. In addition, Mr. Yoshida joined our laboratory in January as a JSPS Research Fellow. Welcome to the lab, Mr. Yoshida!
January 7, 2026 The other day, we held a workshop on multiscale analysis and simulation at the Center for Innovative Simulation Research, where faculty members affiliated with the center gave presentations. A total of 138 people participated, including 33 in-person attendees.
December 22, 2025 Today, we held the final laboratory meeting of 2025. Thank you everyone for your hard work throughout the year. In addition, we celebrated the advancement of Endo, a first-year PhD student, with a small congratulatory gathering. We wish you continued success in your academic journey!
December 16-18, 2025 The 39th Numerical Fluid Dynamics Symposium was held in Fukuoka, and the following members from our laboratory participated in the presentations: Mr. Yuguchi from Komatsu Ltd., Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Ming, Postdoctoral Researcher Fengbo, third-year PhD students Linghui and Qiao, second-year PhD student Tomizawa, first-year PhD student Endo, second-year master’s student Hirayama, and first-year undergraduate student Tanaka. Thank you all for your excellent presentations—well done!
December 14, 2025 A group of volunteer members from our laboratory went fishing at Akigawa Valley! What a wonderful catch it was!
December 10, 2025 On December 10, a workshop of industrial committee for supercomputing promotion was held at the Institute of Industrial Science. From industry, five presenters from three companies participating in the “Industrial Application Council for Supercomputing Technologies” gave presentations. From our laboratory, Professor Hasegawa, Mr. Yugeita (D2), Mr. Endo (D1), Mr. Hirayama (M2), Mr. Iwai (M1), and Mr. Kamifuji(M1) from the Kametami Laboratory at Meiji University, a collaborative research partner, participated, totaling 6 members.
December 3, 2025 On December 3, a special research workshop organized by our laboratory was held at the Institute of Industrial Science. More than 45 young engineers from over 10 companies participated, and a CFD training course was conducted.
November 24-26, 2025 Mr. Endo, a first-year doctoral student, participated in the 36th Parallel CFD International Conference (ParCFD 2025) held in Mérida, Mexico, and delivered an oral presentation. Congratulations on the excellent presentation!
November 16-21, 2025 At Supercomputing 2025 (SC25), held in St. Louis, USA, second-year Ph.D. student Mr. Tomizawa and Prof. Hasegawa took part, and Mr. Tomizawa presented a video of blood-flow simulation inside the zebrafish brain. Fantastic work, and congratulations on the excellent presentation!!
November 12-13, 2025 At Kobe University, The 3rd Joint Meeting of the JSME Research Committee RC304—chaired by Prof. Hasegawa—was held, with participation from 21 university faculty members and 20 representatives from 18 companies (including online attendees).

October 22-25, 2025 The 11th JSME-KSME Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference was held in Okinawa. From our lab, Mr. Miyoshi from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Dr. Tingting(postdoc), Yang(D3), Tomizawa(D2), Weichen(D2), Saito(M2), Nakane(M2), Nishikawa(M2) participated and gave excellent presentations. Congratulations to everyone for your marvelous work!
October 4-5, 2025 The Thermal Engineering Conference 2025 of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers(JSME) was held in Yamagata. From our laboratory, Professor Hasegawa, postdoctoral researcher Dr. Di, and 2nd year master's student Mr. Otani participated and gave presentations. Great work on your excellent presentations!
September 29-30, 2025 The 2nd Joint Meeting of the JSME Research Committee RC304, “Advanced Measurement, Simulation, and Data Science for Digital Twins in Thermal Fluid Engineering and Their Industrial Applications”, together with the special workshop of our laboratory, “Mathematical Optimization in Thermal Fluid Engineering” was simultaneously held at Okayama University. A total of 35 participants from 19 companies and 29 participants from universities (including online attendees) took part, engaging in active discussions on the potential for industry-academia collaboration in the field of thermal fluid engineering.
September 22-24, 2025 At the international symposium ETMM-15 held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Ming, 2nd-year Ph.D. student Mr. Yugeta, and 1st-year Ph.D. student Mr. Endo gave wonderful presentations!!
September 19, 2025 The University of Tokyo’s Graduate School commencement ceremony was held at the Hongo Campus. Second-year master’s student WANG Yizhen and doctoral students FANG Tingting and GUAN Fengbo participated. Congratulations to all three on their graduation!
September 17-19, 2025 Our Hasegawa Laboratory also participated in the Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics (JSFM) Annual Meeting held at Osaka Metropolitan University. In addition to Ming and Fengbo, this year Mr. Hirayama, a second-year master’s student, also delivered a presentation.
August 6-8, 2025 This year, we once again held the Hasegawa Lab’s summer camp! Unlike previous years, we stayed at a cottage by Lake Kawaguchi, where we enjoyed water skiing, fireworks, BBQ, sightseeing at the circuit, and many other activities, making it a truly fulfilling trip.The board game we all played together at night took an unexpected turn and became an exciting highlight of the evening.
