A joint meeting of JSME Research Committee RC304, “Advanced Measurement, Simulation, and Data Science for Digital Twins in Thermal-Fluid Engineering and Their Industrial Applications” and the Hasegawa Laboratory (Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo) Special Workshop on “Optimization Mathematics in Thermal-Fluid Engineering” was held at IIS, The University of Tokyo. The event brought together 45 participants from 19 companies and 24 from universities, who engaged in lively discussions on prospects for future industry–academia collaboration.

Our laboratory hosted a special research workshop that welcomed 27 participants from eight companies. Fifteen members from our lab also attended, and the discussions and exchange of ideas made for a highly productive and rewarding session.

We participated in the 8 univ. Joint Meeting for Turbulence Control held at Shibaura Institute of Technology, where third-year doctoral student Guan Fengbo won the Best Presentation Award. We could interact extensively with students from fluid-dynamics laboratories at other universities, making the experience extremely rewarding.

Professor Hasegawa served as the Japanese Session Chair for “Sustainable Ocean Engineering” at the 2025 Japan-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (JAFoE 2025), held at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). While there, he had many opportunities to engage with numerous professors and researchers. The Komaba Research Campus Open House 2025 was held at the Institute of Industrial Science, and our laboratory also participated. We presented our research via poster displays and conducted live demonstrations in the laboratory, which drew many visitors.

Dr. Sho Watanabe, a graduate of our laboratory, and second-year doctoral student Yusuke Yugeta presented their research at the 1st International Symposium on AI & Fluid Mechanics held in Chania, Crete.

We participated in The 62nd National Heat Transfer Symposium held in Okinawa. From our laboratory, Mr. Noguchi from Nissan Motor Co. gave a presentation on our joint research regarding the optimization of liquid film coating. In addition, Dr. Alex Stroh, who is currently staying at our lab, presented his work on wall roughness in turbulent boundary layers.

Professor Yosuke Hasegawa visited Professor Florian Muller-Plathe at Darmstadt University of Technology, where Mr. Tomizawa from D2 is currently studying abroad for a short term. During his visit, he gave a seminar lecture and also met with Professor Suad Jakirlić of the same university.

Dr. Urara Hasegawa from Pennsylvania State University, the sister of Professor Yosuke Hasegawa, gave a lecture at IIS. The lecture attracted not only members of our lab but also many students from other laboratories, and we had the valuable opportunity to hear her insights on biomaterials.

A joint workshop organized by Hasegawa Kaori sensei of Tokyo University of the Arts was held at the Mitsubishi Estate head office, and Hasegawa Yosuke sensei from our laboratory participated! Homma sensei from the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) presented the topic.

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, a special research meeting hosted by the Hasegawa Laboratory was held at the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), the University of Tokyo, inviting Professor Kaoru Iwamoto of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology to introduce his latest research results. In addition to the members of our laboratory, about 50 people from 11 companies attended the meeting and had enthusiastic discussions! From our laboratory, Hasegawa sensei and Ito san, a postdoctoral fellow, gave presentations!

We (Hasegawa lab) held the End-year party at the Institute of Indusliial Science (IIS), the University of Tokyo on Monday, December 23, 2024. we ate a lot of sushi and chicken! We started with new members in April and this year has ended in a flash, but everyone worked really hard! Let's keep up the good work next year! Have a Happy New Year!

The 3rd Pacific Rim Thermal Engineering Conference (PRTEC2024) was held in Hawaii from December 15th to 19th, 2024. From Hasegawa lab, Osawa-san, Di-san, Ming-san, Fengbo-san, Tingting-san, and Linghui-san gave presentations! Great job on your wonderful presentations! The weather was very warm even during this time of year, making it very comfortable, and the experience was liuly fulfilling!

We participated in SC24, the world's largest international conference on supercomputers, held in Atlanta from 11/17 to 11/22, 2024, and exhibited a booth related to simulations at the Institute of Indusliial Science (IIS) ! In addition, D1 student Shun Tomizawa presented his research at the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics (APS DFD 2024) held in Salt Lake City from 11/24 to 11/26!
